Should I use Flowtune?
Flowtune only makes sense once you spend over $500/month on Github Actions. With managed actions, Github handles upgrades, security postures, and access controls. With Flowtune, you manage this yourself or have opsZero manage it. The benefits of using Flowtune, however, are getting significant cost reductions compared to managed actions, the ability to set up ARM64 and various other Linux flavors, such as RHEL, Debian, SuSE, and customizing instances with pre-packaged software to reduce the time that jobs take on installing dependencies.
How much can I save compared to Github-managed actions?
Github charges $0.008/minute or $0.48/hr for a 2-core Linux machine. An equivalent m6a.large machine on AWS costs $0.0864/hr. This price can be dropped further by using Reserved Instances and Spot Instances.
